'How to Install and Troubleshoot CGI Scripts' is the new book from Milana Nastetskaya and looks set to follow the success of her last two books, Building A Business Website and 65 Instant Web Design Answers. Milana already has an excellent reputation for writing informative books revealing some of the secrets of building web pages and 'How to Install and Troubleshoot CGI Scripts' makes an excellent addition to her offerings.
As the name suggests, 'How to Install and Troubleshoot CGI Scripts' gives instructions for installing nearly any CGI script on a website. Many people never install a CGI script on their website because they think it is too difficult or aren't sure of the technical details. Milana Nastetskaya's new book covers every area which puts people off and explains in easy-to-understand terms, exactly what you need and how to go about finding, installing and running CGI scripts.
Not only does it cover the uploading of scripts and how to set them to work, but it also explains what your web host must provide for you to be able to use the scripts and gives basic instructions on how to configure a script for your own use. One of the best parts of the book, though, is the troubleshooting section. CGI scripts have a bad reputation for having extremely unhelpful error messages (like 'Error 500') and very few scripts available on the internet explain what to do if you encounter one of these. 'How to Install and Troubleshoot CGI Scripts' fills this gap by giving extensive information on what the errors mean and gives steps you can take to overcome the errors.
If you are looking for a tutorial on how to write CGI scripts you're not going to find it here, but as Milana says in her book "there are plenty of free CGI scripts on the Web so you shouldn't have a problem dumping the big headache and finding a user-friendly, well-explained script." What the book will tell you, though, is how to install the scripts you do find on the web and it performs this function amazingly. Installing a script can be complicated at first but if you use this book you will find that the process is as simple as creating your website was.
I wish I has this book when I first installed a CGI script, it would have saved me so much time and frustration. Definitely worth buying!"
